Health Policy Analysis
The process of assessing and choosing among spending resource alternatives that affect the health care system, public health system, or the health of the general public.
Definition of Health:
Complete physical, mental, and social well-being; not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
Epidemiology
Study of disease in the population.
Medical Informatics
The field concerned with the acquisition, storage, and use of information in health and biomedicine.
Health Education & Promotion
Community based education and empowerment programs.
Social Marketing
Using the techniques of commercial marketing to influence positive health behavior change.
Clinical Trials
Also known as randomized-control trials or double-blind studies. These are large studies that take place in multiple cities with many employees and research subjects.
Informed Consent
A legal condition whereby a person can be said to have given consent based upon an appreciation and understanding of the facts and implications of an action.
Patient Zero
The first case in an epidemic.
Epidemic
A disease that appears as new cases in a given human population, during a given period, at a rate that substantially exceeds what is “expected,” based on recent experience.
Syndemic
The concentration of two or more diseases or other health conditions in a population in which there is some level of biological interaction among the diseases and co-morbid or health conditions; often related to social inequalities.
Pandemic
An epidemic that crosses international boundaries.
Global Health
A field of study that focuses on health issues that cross national boundaries, international comparisons of health and disease, and the political dynamics that affect health.
Endemic
The baseline rate of disease in the population.
