Q
Headlands & Bays
=only form at discordant coastlines
-where bands of rock type are perpendicular to the sea
(concordant coastline where the layers of rock type are parallel to the sea)
A
-Different rock types erode at different rates.
1- weaker bands of soft rock (clay) erode more easily to form bays.
(as bays are sheltered a sandy beach forms)
2-tougher bands of hard rock (sandstone) erode slower they stick out into the sea to form headlands.
(erosion dominates in these high-energy areas so there are no snady beaches in the headland areas)
(most EROSIONAL LANDFORMS are found at headlands: crack, cave, arch, stack, stump)
