Coastal Erosional Landforms Flashcards
Process of Erosional landform to make a stump
1- crack: there is a FAULT in the resistant rock.
2- cave: ABRASION and HYDRAULIC ACTION widen the crack to form a cave
3- arch: waves make the cave LONGER until it cuts through the headland to make an arch
4- stack: the arch is ERODED and the roof becomes too heavy and collapses through weathering processes. =a tall stack
5- stump the stack is ERODED and collapses creating a stump
Wave cut platforms
a wide gently sloping surface found at the cliffs base extending into the sea
(usually seen at low tide)
Wave cut notches
an indentation/ undertaking at the base of the cliff, formed by the erosion of waves
1- the sea attacks the base of the cliff and abrasion and hydraulic action form a wave cut notch
2- the cliff edge becomes unstable and collapses
3- this is repeated as the cliff retreats
