Helmets are removed where/when
Removed for backboarding or cardiac arrest
Altered Level of responsiveness
O2 and transport, backboard if unwitnessed, contact ALS
Stroke
Droop, drift, Speech (Sky is blue, sun is orange), O2 and transport ALS
Scalp Laceration
Stop bleeding by pressure, bandage head either around head and below chin, or use a cravat
Object in eye
Stabilize object using a “donut”, cover both eyes, bandage.
Avulsed Tooth – where is it stored
Back in socket if possible, otherwise in Hank’s solution, milk, or saline
Neck Laceration
Pressure bandage by using figure 8 under opposing shoulder, occlusive dressing if deep (sucking) and O2, ALS
Injured scapula, clavicle, acromioclavicular joint, in the proximal and middle thirds of clavicle
Sling and swath, exterior under arm to avoid injury
Posterior Sternoclavicular dislocation
If breathing impaired: ALS, O2, Move arm away and down, Figure 8, otherwise just sling and swath
Fractured rib
O2, Blanket and transport
Flail chest
ALS Cover with Sam splint, blanket, O2 and transport
Sucking chest wound
ALS, O2, Occlusive dressing or specialized dressing (one way valve), tape on 3 sides if not special
Evisceration
ALS, O2, Cover in moist dressing (not on mountain), do not put back in, Blanket roll under feet and between knees
Acute Abdomen
O2, Comfort, Flexed knees by blanket roll under and between knees, transport,
Impaled object
ALS, O2, Stablize object, transport
