Hair inspection
Observing for Good quanitity, Even distribution, Proper texture, No patters of hair loss
Scalp inspection
Making sure there is no scaliness, lesions, nits, edema, or tinea
Skull inspection
Assessing for proper size for age, even contour, no asymmetry (symmetrical), no swelling or redness of the TMJ or mastoid
Face inspection
Making sure patient demonstrates correct/symmetrical facial expressions, with no involuntary movements of the face, no asymmetry (symmetrical)
Skin inspection
Upon observation making sure there is no discoloration, lesions, or swelling, and has proper distribution of facial hair
Skull palpation
Looking for any detectable deformities, depressions, lumps or tenderness of the skull
TMJ palpation
Looking for proper range of motion, swelling, tenderness, popping
Parotid gland palpation
Making sure there is no tenderness, swelling, firmness, or warmth
Mastoid palpation
Making sure there is no tenderness, swelling, firmness or warmth
Neck inspection
Looking for proper symmetry, no scars/masses/tracheal deviation observed
Thyroid gland inspection
(At rest/during swallowing) Looking for proper symmetry, no observed differences between R/L lobes
Cervical range of motion inspection
Assessing Flexion, Extension, Rotation, and Lateral bending
Palpation of Lymph nodes
Looking for proper size, shape, mobility consistency, and tenderness in:
-occipital
-post auricular
-pre auricular
-submandibular
-submental
-tonsillar
-anterior cervical chain
-deep cervical chain (along scm)
-posterior cerivcal chain
-supraclavicular
Thyroid gland palpation
Assessing for proper size, symmetry, consistency, tenderness, nodules
Cervical spine palpation
Assessing for any midline bony tenderness
