Head and Neck 1 Flashcards
cranial vs facial bones
cranial bones form the top of the head and the skull
facial bones form the face
cranial sutures
joining points of the skull
they allow bones to slide over one another during childbirth
what are the names of the three cranial sutures
coronal
sagittal
lamboid
how many cranial bones are there altogether

ethmoid bone
between the eyes and between the brain and nasal cavity
frontal bone
forms forehead
parietal bones
pair of bones forming the top and superior sides of the skull.
temporal bones

what are the 8 cranial bones
occipital frontal sphenoid ethmoid 2 x parietal 2 x temporal
where is the weakest point of the skull and why
pterion (temple)
joining point of multiple bones
where does the majority of the head and necks blood supply come from
right and left common carotid arteries
what do the right and left common carotid arteries branch into
internal carotid - 80& of brain blood supply
external carotid - supplies the face
how can you tell the difference between the internal and external carotid artery
external has lots of branches throughout however internal only branches once it reaches the brain
