Hazlewoods Interview Flashcards

1
Q

Why do I want to work at Hazlewoods: (3)

A

I like the fact that I’ll be working with such a young team being one of the 50 young people that normally join - nice to get experience and learn from the more experienced people but also nice to be able to have some age mates that I can relate to and work with and build good working relationships with.

A great work/life balance
A health and wellbeing programme, social events throughout the year and a Trainee Committee to support your progress. I’m very competitive and ready to get stuck in.

The history was fascinating to read about, from when it was founded in 1919 to 1944 when the first female qualified as a Certified Accountant, Dorothy Broom, to 2019 when you helped raise £100,000 for a local cancer charity to 2024 when now Hazlewoods has grown to £45 million revenue and over 550 employees. I would love to work with a company with such a great history and background

Q

What does the job entail and how can you fit in (4)

A
  1. Detailed Review and Documentation of Client Information

During my project, I conducted thorough analyses of DFJ’s financial accounts, including income statements and transaction histories. This required meticulous attention to detail and the ability to interpret complex financial data. I feel like my experiences with reviewing invoices, bank statements, and payroll reports mirrors the task of examining client information for accuracy and completeness.

  1. Assess the Accuracy and Reliability of Client Information

Performing a detailed financial feasibility study meant verifying the legitimacy and reliability of DFJ’s financial data. I assessed the credibility of their accounts amidst fluctuating market conditions, which is similar to evaluating client information for potential discrepancies or misstatements. My ability to spot inconsistencies and evaluate risks will be invaluable when attending client year-end stocktakes and ensuring accurate financial reporting.

  1. Assist in Preparing Financial Statements

Analysing income statements and forecasting profits required not only understanding financial statements but also the ability to manipulate data to project future outcomes. My familiarity with financial documents and analytical tools positions me well to assist in the preparation and review of these statements and I look forward to having a chance to get to know the audit software as well as I can.

  1. Meeting Tight Client Deadlines

Managing university projects has taught me time management and organisational skills. Handling pressures of tight deadlines while maintaining quality work demonstrates my readiness to meet client expectations, even when there are constrained timelines. My experiences will ensure that I can prioritise tasks effectively and contribute to timely audit completions.

Q

How do I fit the role? (4)

A
  • I have great attention to detail and rarely make mistakes and if I do I am very good at proof reading quickly and precisely to be to fix small errors. I have shown this in my role as an online tutor, from marking numerous students work, to making spreadsheets of my students confidence levels in a large amount of different topics. It’s important to do this as without double checking and being certain that their are no gaps in my students knowledge, I would leave them unprepared and I would be unsuccessful in my job. I can see how this translates clearly to auditing as it requires a large amount of attention to detail, whilst I am processing data, I need to make sure the numbers I am seeing all make sense and add up.
  • I would also say that being an online tutor for 2 years made me a very great multitasker. I am always looking to do things as efficiently as possible and whilst I would be observing the work i had set my student, I would also be making them flashcards and study notes and also looking for the next activity for them to do, using 3-4 programs at one time. Being a quick thinker, means that it is very hard to overwhelm me. Also being an aspiring first class student at the same time, studying multiple modules at the same time has led to be very good with time management and prescribing tasks to certain timescales to completed for example fitting in my auditing revision whilst still staying well on top of group projects.
  • I would also say that I am very eager to learn and enthusiastic so I will trying to make the most of the placement and even spending extra time so I can learn as much as I can so i can good as I can be at my job as possible. I am always using tools like linked in learning to become more proficient in software for example microsoft excel, which i am currently studying, so I am the type of person to ask as many questions and try and help in extra ways as much as i can.
  • I have great communication skills and this was shown as I was told by managers at Harvey Nichols that the customers appreciated my service and also its important to communicate with other member of the team from other waiters to the kitchen staff, to ensure there are no mistakes and clarity between us. I am also really good at talking to clients as I have as a tutor been able to retain returning students for multiple years as I am really good at communicating why my service is still providing useful and the benefits of continuing subscription. It also means I am good at adapting to different types of people and communicating to them well as I have students around the world from all over the UK, to Canada and even Saudi Arabia.

Q

What is auditing and why do you want to do it? (3)

A
  • So, I am currently doing an auditing module which I am really enjoying and finding interesting. I understand that auditing is the systematic process of objectively obtaining and evaluating evidence regarding assertions about economic actions and events to ascertain the degree of correspondence between those assertions and established criteria and communicating the results to interested users.
  • Auditing is vital in detecting errors, preventing fraud and making sure the financial statements comply with regulations.
  • I also find the importance of a good audit intreseting, because without a good audit, there can be serious legal consequences and reputation damage but with a good audit, stakeholders can have increased trust in the organisations integrity, and it can allso lead to more efficient and effective business operations.
