PEDICTION WHEN POSSIBLE IS VITAL ATTEMPT MANAGE IMPACTS OF NATURAL HAZARDS
Hazard management cycle illustrates
different stages of managing a hazard in an attempt to reduce scale of disaster
What is response
Immediate help in the form of rescue to save lives and aid to keep people alive e.g shelter ,food and water
What is recovery
Rebuilding infrastructure and services , rehabilitating injured people and lives
What is mitigation
Acting to reduce scale of next disaster : land use zoning , hazard-resistant buildings and infrastructure
What is Preparedness
Community education and resilience building including how to act before , during and after a disaster , prediction , warning and evacuation tech and systems
Recovery stage of hazard management can be thought as returning to
normal state can take months or years
What does the recovery stage depend on
Magnitude of disaster bigger the longer
Development level - lower means longer as poorer people more severely affected
governance - Well governed places divert resources more effectively
external- aid and foreign financing
