Q
The commitment of Biosafety Level (BSL)
A
- BSL: 1
For lab in which work is done with well define and characterized organism not known to cause disease in healthy adult human e. g.: E. Coli. Bastille subtilis. - BSL: 2
For lab with moderate risk agents present in community and associated with human disease of varying severity. E. g: HBV, Salmonella, Toxoplasmosis.
(Use gloves, safety cabinet class I or II) - BSL: 3
Is in laboratory with agents that are associated with risk and serious fatal aerosol infection (MTB, Brucellosis, HIV). Properly maintain biological safety cabinet class II and III should be used. - BSL: 4
Applied to work with dangerous and exotic agents which pose a high risk of life threatening disease to individuals. (Ebola virus, Lassa Virus, Monkeypox)
