Steps 1-3: Arrival
A
- Approach the scene from uphill and upwind.
- Position apparatus at a safe distance with fast escape routes and establish command post.
- Advise other responding units on conditions and best response routes.

Steps 4-7: Actions
A
- Have crews dress in full turnouts and SCBA.
- Determine incident level 1, 2, 3, and advise communication.
- Isolate and deny entry
- Perform evacuation of immediate area without exposing crew to chemicals (DON’T GET TOO CLOSE).

Step 8: Rescue
A
- Perform rescue ONLY if you can do it safely.
A) Be aware of hazards involved
B) Avoid as much personal contact with victims as possible
C) Use minimum number of personnel
D) Decontaminate AS SOON AS POSSIBLE anyone exposed to chemicals, or if you THINK they MAY have been exposed

Steps 9-11: Conditions
A
- Attempt to identify the chemicals involved from a safe distance.
- Report all pertinent information and give and update on conditions.
- Attempt to confine the product as much as possible and protect environmental exposure.

Steps 12-13: Needs
A
- Determine additional resources needed to help mitigate the incident.
- Assist Haz Mat Team as needed upon their arrival.
