How many Gas Tight Suits are there on each appliance?
Two GTSs
Two riders are allocated GTS wearers at the start of each shift
Describe the GTS?
Materials, colour, weight
Orange
Manufactured from polyester fabric, coated with orange Viton
Approximately 10.5kg in weight
The suit is fitted with integral two layer chemical resistant gloves and chemical resistant boots
Pressure relief valves are fitted to the rear of the hood to prevent excessive pressure build up inside the suit
What is contained within each GTS stowage box?
Four answers
One GTS
A container of anti-misting fluid and a cloth
A pair of thin socks (to be worn if necessary to take up any excess room in the boots)
A pair of cotton gloves
Thermal Protection Gloves can be used within what temperature range?
-160°C - 150°C
The wearing of the gloves depends on the Additional Personal Protection (APP) code, allocated to the specific material or chemical being dealt with
What is the recommended maximum period for an individual to wear a GTS?
20 minutes, this includes time for decontamination
What is the name of the form that needs to be completed after the wearing of a GTS at an incident?
O/PPE/7 form
What is the test procedure for GTSs at station level?
Five answers
On nomination as GTS wearers, select the appropriate suit size
Inspect oxygen to confirm the yellow seals are intact
If any of the seals are broken, the suit is returned to PEG
Remove any suits currently stowed on the appliance, and return to designated storage area
Place selected suit onto appliance and ensure correctly stowed
