Hugh uses the poem ‘Hawk Roosting as a vehicle to expose the ways in which power is abused and exploited. Hugh used a dramatic monologue from the perspective of a ego centric hawk, which symbolises the 20th century dictatorship.this allows the reader into an insight of flawed ideologies and delusions of grandeur the hawk possesses. The actions are both callous and absurd demonstrating the corruptive nature of power and emphasising the danger of a single individual of having absolute authority with out any real accountability
