To Autumn Flashcards

Q
Introduction
A
Having written the poem whilst knowing his life was soon to be cut short by tuberculosis, Keats uses the poem ‘To Autumn’ to appreciate the beauty of nature in every season of life - from birth through to death. He uses the poem as a cathartic means to process and come to terms with his own mortality as he understood that like Autumn, the meaning of life is not to live or last forever but to leave a legacy and appreciate life’s uniqueness. He finds comfort in the idea that the cycle of the seasons will continue and nature will persist after he dies.
