14
Q

Why is the gliding speed above 25,000ft important?

A

a. To avoid the risk of an undamaged engine ceasing to windmill
b. To put the aircraft at the correct KIAS to try a cold relight at or below 25,000 feet
c. To reduce canopy fogging up
d. To preserve battery life.

16
Q

During a suspected engine malfunction, above what altitude is a zoom not always required?

A

If above 25,000 MSL, time is not as critical and
the zoom is not always required as other factors
now come into play

17
Q

Indications of a compressor stall?

A

Loss of thrust with any of the following:
1. Fluctuating RPM (usually decoupled RPM/TGT movement - RPM falls, TGT rises)
2. Popping/banging sound
3.

18
Q

What does AOI say about compressor stalls which occur at low RPM?

A

If the compressor stall occurs at low RPM, the loss of thrust may not be noticed (at idle) and there may be no unusual noises. TGT may rise slowly (about 10 degrees per second). This can happen at higher altitudes and
slower speeds with severe distortion of intake flow.

19
Q

3 types of compressor stalls?

A
  1. Compressor stall leading to flameout
  2. Compressor stall that clears at idle
  3. Compressor stall that does not clear at idle
20
Q

What should you do if ROT caption does not come on the EMP during an air relight?

A

If a relight is attempted and the ROT caption
on the EMP does not come on a LP shaft seizure is
confirmed, the relight attempt is to be stopped and the
ENGINE SEIZURE procedure is to be performed.

21
Q

4 indications of Engine Mech Damage?

A

a. Vibration.
b. Abnormal TGT or RPM.
c. Loss of thrust.
d. External sparks, trailing smoke and/or
momentary flames emitting from the exhaust
pipe.

22
Q

Why is it important to shut the engine down after a seizure?

A

After eitheror both seize, relighting will not be possible and cancause a risk of an engine fire. For these reasons the engine is to be shut down and all fuel turned off.

23
Q

How do you determine if the LP shaft has seized during a seizure?

A

No ROT on EMP after relight button pressed

24
Q

Give 2 indications of a seized HP shaft

A

a. RPM blank on EMP. A wind milling engine will
give more than 10% RPM in an undamaged
engine at normal gliding speed. However,
caution must be exercised with this indication
because with a damaged but unseized
engine, the RPM may be less than 10% RPM
and also show blank.
b. When observed RPM decrease is rapid
and goes blank on the EMP, a seizure has
occurred. This will likely be accompanied by
unusual noises.
c. If the HP shaft is seized, the Hyd 1 pressure
will eventually go to 0 after the accumulator is
depleted.

25
Q

Give 2 indications of an engine bay fire

A
  1. Trailing smoke
  2. External Flames
  3. FIRE warning
26
Q

What is the possible cause of the FIRE warning light stated in the warning under Engine Bay Fire in Flight?

A

Exhaust gas leakage in the jet pipe bay can cause an overheat situation that will trigger the FIRE warning
light. Reduction of power can reduce the overheat condition and extinguish the FIRE warning light.

27
Q

What does the ECA do?

A

Provide outputs for:

a. Maximum TGT/NL control.
b. Warning of excessive TGT or NL.
c. Signal of correct LP shaft rotation.
d. ECA failure Caution.

28
Q

What does the compressor provide bleed air for?

A
  1. Air conditioning unit, Anti-G, canopy seal
  2. Bleed valve operation
  3. Anti-icing for LP compressor nose fairing
  4. Cooling of engine bearing housing
  5. Engine oil pressurization
  6. Fuel tanks pressurization
29
Q

What does the HP Shaft drive?

A

Through the external gearbox, the HP shaft drives:

  1. HP/LP fuel pumps
  2. Hydraulic pumps
  3. Oil pumps
  4. DC generator
  5. HP RPM tacho-generator
30
Q
  1. Maximum time limit for GTS to come on?
  2. Maximum time limit for ROT to come on?
  3. Time limit for ROT caption to go off?
  4. Time limit for engine to light up from advancement of throttle?
A
  1. 22 seconds
  2. 10 seconds
  3. 28 seconds
  4. 15 seconds (but normally 10s)
