Q
  1. Why you shouldn’t do duck unders, what are the stabilized approach criteria?
A

No duck unders as the risk of high rate of descent (sink) , Constant descent path until flare or touchdown
During a normal landing, pilots of fixed-wing aircraft shall plan the final approach so that a constant descent path is maintained until the flare or touchdown (as applicable). Any abrupt attitude changes (so called “duck-under” manoeuvres) to attempt to move the projected touchdown point may produce high sink rates and thrust/lift problems at a critical time and are, therefore, prohibited (see Chapter 37 of reference B).

Fort McMurray

A

Fort McMurray area. In addition to a 5 NM positive control zone, Fort McMurray also has a 25 NM VFR advisory zone. Pilots operating within 25 miles of YMM shall advise Fort McMurray ATC of their intentions on 118.1, 236.6 or 243.0 MHz.

Q

Flying over the range and see a forest fire, what should you assume and what should you do about it?

A

Pilots encountering forest fires within the Cold Lake DLFA should assume that firefighting activity has already commenced and shall avoid obvious fires by 5 NM or at least 3000’ AGL. Active Cold Lake fire grids will be closed to 4,800AGL (approx. 7000 MSL within CYR 204). Delivery of any type of ordnance within closed fire grids is prohibited.

Q

How does landing in a formation and not crashing into one another? When do you call clear?

A

Tower side is cold side. Request South side cold side on rwy 22/04
TAC ramp based aircraft landing on runway 22 who wish to exit left on Alpha upon landing, must make the request “Cold side, left side” at initial. Tower will advise no later than base leg if the request can be approved.

Q

LL and you enter into clouds what should you do and what height do you climb up to?

A

If VMC cannot be maintained while low level and action to avoid adverse weather must be taken resulting in unintended IMC flight within 100 NM of Cold Lake, pilots are to climb to 4300 ft MSL and contact an appropriate control agency for clearance. Beyond 100 NM of Cold Lake, pilots are to climb to the minimum enroute safe altitude and contact an appropriate control agency for clearance.

Q

NORDO CLAWR

A

a. Below FL200
If below FL 200, level off and turn to the low level holding point (OTODI) or the IAF for the departure runway (OTODI or PELRO), descend no lower than 7,000 ft ASL, hold if required for landing weight considerations then land as soon as practical.
b. Above FL200
If at or above FL 200, climb or descend to no lower than FL 240 before proceeding to the High IAF for the departure runway, hold if required for landing weight considerations then land as soon as practical;

17
Q

IFR app to 31R -> VFR and want to land on a different rwy? What are the requiremnts for sidestep?

A

If unable to cancel IFR at level off, decelerate and configure prior to the FAF and continue with the IFR approach to MDA. If able/requested/required, a sidestep to land on the inner can be accomplished per SOPs.

18
Q

At what height do you need to contact terminal by?

A

above 4000MSL / 20DME from aerodrome (5000’ MSL and outside 25 DME)

19
Q

Min rwy length for VFR divert? What are the exceptions for 419 SQN?

A

6,000ft / Lloyd minister, Fort Mcmurry

20
Q

MAX fuel for PFL

A

2000lbs

21
Q

LLAT criterias & rules

A

a.c commander has to have flown within the last 7 days

22
Q

Dissimilar configurtions take off, when can we do it?

A

the lead can lead someone with equal or lesser drag

23
Q

When do you call emergency fuel and what are the figures

A

300lbs on the ground. Can start calculating from the bingo prior leaving area.

24
Q

Preflight runup conditions and where do you do it?

A

Should the CT-115 engine not reach the minimum required post-start idle figure iaw the AOI’s page 1-5-13 para 40, then the warm-up procedure described in the Pilot’s Checklist, Part 6, Chapter 2, page 7 should be carried out. For efficiency and safety reasons the run-up can be carried out on the Tac Ramp providing the jet is on slot 20-24 (far line near runway closest to taxiway Golf). The aircraft can be facing either direction.

The procedure for carrying out the run-up on the ramp is as follows:

  1. Inform Sqn Ops and ATC Ground frequencies that a run-up is required. The DOA will inform the CMat Desk Controller, the DOS and any crews currently being out briefed.
  2. Inform the ground crew that a run-up is required by using the ‘throttle-up’(clenched fist pushing forward) signal. The run-up will not start until clearance is given by the ground crew.
  3. The aircraft will be configured Parking Brake off, Toe Brakes ON, Chocked and Canopy closed. Check that the aircraft on either side are not conducting external checks.
  4. The ground crew will indicate clearance to proceed with the run by giving a ‘throttle-up’ and ‘thumbs up’ signal.
  5. If at any stage during the run the ground crew require the run to terminate they will attract the pilots attention and give the ‘throttle-down’ (clenched fist pulling back) signal.DO it at per chocks, park brakes are off and toe brakes on, 90% +5% -0%
25
Q

What do you know about wind limits in the hawk

A

> 35kts steady state of wind requires CO approval
20 kts solo
25 kts dual

26
Q

What are the temperature limits?

A

Cold Temperature Limits. Hawk operations will cease when the ambient air temperature is colder than -30ºC (aircraft air starter limitations);

No training flights will be flown at or below a Wind Corrected Temperature (WCT) of -45ºC. For operations in the local and planned flying areas (i.e. missions near Buffalo Narrows, Lloydminster, Ft McMurray…etc) where temperatures are reported to be below - 35ºC WCT, the Sqn CO’s approval is required; and

27
