-1086 Doomsday book found 60% of York was still a wasteland.

  • Anglosaxons replaced with normans in feudal system
  • By 1087 all Anglosaxon earls replaced.
  • From 1071 there were no more rebellions.
  • Yorks castles rebuilt
  • Cannibalism swept the north after food supplies were depleted.
  • 100,000 died in the harsh winter of 1069.
