Explain the symbolism of Harry’s wand. How does it link him with his new identity?
There is much symbolism regarding Harry’s wand. It is a reminder to us that Harry may have some of Voldemort’s powers, as he was chosen by the exact same wand. It suggests that Harry might be a wizard of Voldemort’s caliber. Harry is no longer the scrawny child who is pushed around by the Dursleys. He is now the boy who survived Lord Voldemort and received some of his powers.
What gate is the Hogwarts Express leaving from. How do you access it?
It is leaving from Platform 9 3/4. You access it by running through the wall between platforms 9 and 10.
Who does Harry meet on the train? Describe them.
The three students Harry meet on the train are Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, and Draco Malfoy.
Ron Weasley is a child from a large wizard family. He has five older brothers, and all of them have established themselves in the wizarding world. His family is not very wealthy, and has little exposure to the muggle world. Hermione is a bookworm of sorts. She is very engrossed with her academics and already has much knowledge of magic and its history. She knows more about Harry than he knows about himself. Malfoy is a spoiled child whose parents were once dark wizards. He is much like Dudley in the magical world. He is rude and pompous, and Crabbe and Goyle, who act as his personal thugs, often follow him.
What are the four houses?
Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherin, and Hufflepuff.
What does Harry feel about his professors?
Snape hates him
Mcgonagall is too strict
Quirrell does not know what he is doing
Binns is boring
Explain Harry’s choice of Gryffindor over Slytherin.
Harry had never been exposed to magic before his arrival in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and yet he still kept up with other Pure Blood Witches and Wizards. It was not intelligence that prevented him from falling behind, but rather bravery. It is this bravery that shines through in his Sorting. The Sorting Hat sees a lot of potential in him, and a need to prove himself. These traits could have easily landed him in Slytherin house, but the Sorting Hat understood Harry’s brave choice to reject Slytherin, and translated this to the bravery of a Gryffindor. Up until this point we could understand that Harry was following the same path as Voldemort, especially through him being chosen for the same wand. However, it can be seen now that Harry, after choosing Gryffindor, will go down an opposite path to Voldemort, which is a path of kindness, bravery, and respect. This shows that their fates are not meant to be equal, and he can choose who he wants to be.
Is Harry’s flying lesson a success?
Yes. Despite breaking the rules, he rescues Neville’s remembrall, and earns himself a spot on the Quidditch team.
What is Harry’s position on the Quidditch team?
Seeker
What is his broomstick called?
Nimbus 2000
