What does the power supply box do?
take power, breaks it down into smaller power sources and distributes it

Connects all of the different parts of the computer to the others;
allows data and power to xfer from one component to another;
No Evidentiary Value in the MB
What does the CPU do? Does CPU hold data?
“Brains of the Computer”
***gets the commands from other parts of the computer and it carries them out.
Instructions are fed from the software, CPU carries them out
CPU does NOT hold data
What does RAM do?
Temporary work area for anything the computer needs on a temporary basis
Data or instructions are NOT there permanently
***What is “Volatile Data”?
Data will be lost when power is lost
***What are the conditions for memory to be on RAM?
1) Computer has to be turned on
2) The Operating system has to have put it there
Is there any evidentiary value in RAM?
YES! Lost of good evidence in RAM but you HAVE to access it with the computer on. (If you lose power, you lose RAM)
