A
when rocks flow over limestone rocks
magnesium and calcium make water hard

How do ion exchange columns work?
A
hard water goes into the ion exchange column
plastic beads which are negatively charged with sodium on are in the ion exchange chamber
the calcium on the water binds to the sodium
the soft water comes out the other end
sodium or hydrogen ions are exchanged for calcium and magnesium ions
