Define Equalizer
Optimizing the overall sound quality and tone of the sound, as well as tune the system to help prevent squealing feedback
Three ways that sources can get into the sound system
Microphones, direct box, devices plugged in (like phones, CD’s, etc)
Define feedback eliminators
Specialized equalized that can detect feedback and automatically adjust the tone to reduce or prevent squeals
Define reverb
The ambient echo sound that follows a sound in a large room
Define effects
A variety of special effects can be applied to signals, such as echo.. Etc. primarily used to enhance the sound of instruments in the band
Define snake
A large cable that contains within it many smaller cables, each of which carries a separate signal

Balanced vs unbalanced
Balanced cables use 3 conductors, unbalanced use 2 conductors
Guitars are unbalanced, microphones are balanced.
Unbalanced cables use 1 hot lead and a ground, balanced cables use 2 hot leads and a ground
Balanced VS unbalanced
Balanced cables can be run long distances, unbalanced cables can only be run a maximum of 25 feet
What is the Speed of sound
1,120 feet per second approx 1 foot per millisecond
Define Cycle
One crest and one trough
Define frequency
Number of times a wave completes its cycle in one second. Measured in hertz (Hz) or cycles per second (cps)
Define pitch
Each pitch has a specific fundamental frequency
