The night is the only thing in her life that she owns, somewhat showing a sense of rebellion during the night.

Offred can call something hers and that seems to be essential for her sanity, allowing her to have her own thoughts.

Offred doesn’t know how to to feel about the commander, that sense of hatrid shows a sense of rebellion
