What is the pathophysiology of hallucination?
Pattern of brain activity during auditory hallucinations is very similar to that of normal inner speech.
Supplementary motor area (monitors self-generated actions) hippocampus- parahippocampal gyrus detects mismatch between perceived and expected activity.
What are the different types of hallucination?
Auditory Visual Olfactory Gustatory Somatic
What are the types of auditory hallucination?
Second person voices which directly address the patient
Third person voices which discuss the patient or provide a running commentary on his actions
Thought echo: experiences their own thoughts spoken or repeated out loud
Describe visual hallucinations?
Often associated with altered consciousness/organic impairment
Simple e.g. flashes of light
Complex e.g. face or figure

Bodily sensations
Insects crawling under skin
Being touched
