Mood
a prolonged prevailing state or disposition; typically associated with what the patient describes
Affect
mood applied to things (event, people etc.).
how the patients feelings change in relation to their surroundings and the context
something that you typically observe or infer (i.e. objective)
Illusion
Misperception of a real stimulus
Passivity
Behaviour is experienced as being controlled by an external agency rather than by the individual
Describe flattened affect
Less reactivity to the happy parts of interaction but still reactivity to the sad parts of the interaction
Describe blunted affect
Not able to react to any part of interaction
Hallucination
Perception which occurs in the absence of an external stimulus
Disorder of the form of thought
abnormality in the way thoughts are linked, disturbance in organization, control and processing of thoughts.
The abnormality is in the form of their speech rather than its content. Two main examples are; flight of ideas and loosening of associations.
Flights of ideas
Words are associated inappropriately because of their meaning or time so that the speech loses its aim.
Might have rhyming, punning or environmental distractions.
Loosening of associations
Speech is muddled, illogical, difficult to follow and cant be clarified. No information given despite number of words.
Neologism
Patient makes up a new word or phrase, or uses existing words in bizarre ways which have no generally accepted meaning
Delusion
False belief/belief held on false grounds, inappropriate to the patients social-cultural background.
Anhedonia
Loss of enjoyment/pleasure
Anergia
Lack of energy
Amotivation
lack of energy
