Q

What are the properties of the halogens

A

. Non-metals
. Form coloured vapours
. Poisonous
. Brittle and crumbly in their solid form
. Don’t conduct electricity
. Form diatomic molecules (contains two atoms) e.g Cl2

Q

Explain the trend in reactivity within the halogens

A

When they react with metals, halogen atoms gain an electron. The smaller the atom the easier it is to attract this electron - so the more reactive the element will be.
