a surd is an irrational number

how do you find the short side?
A
the short side is the shortest side of the shape, example -
x is the short side & 8 & 10 are the other sides.
x(squared) = 10 (squared) - 8 (squared)
100 - 64 = 36
x = 36 (square root)
x = 6

how do you find x?
A
if x is a shorter side then do the same as the shorter side way & if x is the longer side, do the hypotenuse

what are phythagorean triads?
A
a phythagorean triad is a set of three numbers that obey phythagoras’ theorem. the three numbers are sides of a right angle

how do you find the hypotenuse?
A
the longest side is the hypotenuse. for example if the longest side is X & the other two sides are 3 & 4 - x(squared) = 3(squared) + 4(squared) x(squared) = 25 x(squared) = square root of 25 = 5
