Long term responses?
1.6 million people in relief camps, with no electricity, running water.
6 months after earthquake, 98% of rubble remained uncleared.
Dominican Republic accepted refugees.
Social impacts?
220,000 died. 105,000 houses destroyed. 4,000 schools damaged or destroyed. 5,899 people died from cholera 300,000+ injured
Economic impacts?
1 in 5 people list there jobs due to businesses being destroyed.
90% of port au prince was reduced to rubble - needs to be rebuilt.
Environmental impacts?
Contamination of water with sewage in refugee camps lead to the spread of cholera. 5899 died, 216,000 infected.
Very large quantities of unusable concrete that will be put in landfills.
