- There was a shortage of doctors so people died of broken limbs.
- disease spread quickly
- A year after people are still living in camps, most are run by criminals who escaped when the prison collapsed.

- local people had to dig out people with there bare hands.
- damage to the airport made it difficult to deliver aid
- rescue teams landed with in 48 hours
400,000 bottles of water and 300,000 food rations were dropped with in 9 days

- the eu promised €330 million, the UK sent £20 million
- recovery has been slow due to poor organisation and indecision by governments and aid agencies
- one year on from the earthquake 5% of rubble has been cleared and 15% of required basic and temporary houses have been built.
How did the quake affect Haiti’s development?
- it will cost up to $13 billon to repair everything
- damaged tourist industry
- Haiti also suffers from hurricanes
