What is the difference between Vellus/Lanugo Hair and Terminal Hair?
Vellus/Lanugo hair is short, fine and unpigmented soft hair that is all over the whole body except palms and soles of feet. Also helps absorb perspiration.
Terminal hair is longer and pigmented it’s located on the scalp, legs, arms and coarser body haired areas.
What happens during phase one: the Anaheim Phase?
•Anaheim is the growth phase, new hair is produced.
•Grows half an inch a month.
•It grows faster on women and when you are ages 15-30.
•Slows down after 50.
•90% of your hair is in this phase.
•Takes roughly 3-10 years.
What happens during phase two: Catagen Phase?
•Follicle begins to shrink and detaches from papilla
•bulb disappears
•lasts about one to two weeks
•less than 1% of your hair is in this phase at a time.
What happens during phase 3: Telogen Phase?
•Final stage and lasts until the fully grown hair is shed.
•May fall out on its own.
•May also be pushed out when a new hair grows up the follicle.
•10% of hair is in the telogen phase.
•lasts three to six months.
Normal amounts of hairs lost is anywhere between 35 to 40 a day, but some people can lose up to 100.
