Describe horizontal lines

A

Parallel to the horizon, stable and restful, create a feeling of max weight and stability

Q

Describe diagonal lines

A

Slants left or right, diagonal forward lines move towards the face and vice versa, create a feeling of movement and excitement

8
Q

Describe concave and convex

A

Candace lines curve inward like a cave
Convex lines curve outward like a v
They are a combination or diagonal right and left lines to create a feeling of movement

11
Q

Describe natural fall

A

How the hair lengths lay naturally over the head.

Parts of the body used to describe it are chin, neck, and shoulders

12
Q

Describe normal projection

A

Projected at a 90 degree angle from the curves of the head

Allow you to analyze the structure/length arrangement of the hair

Q

Describe natural (distribution?)

A

How the hair falls naturally against the head due to gravity
Uses horizontal, diagonal, concave, and convex lines
Used to cut solid forms

Q

Describe perpendicular (distribution?)

A

The hair is combed at a 90 degree angle from its parting
Used from any line
Used to cut graduated and layered forms
Used in Caesar cut

Q

Describe shifted (distribution?)

A

Combed out of natural to any angle except perpendicular
Used when cutting most forms except solid
Used for exaggerated length increases and blending between different forms

16
Q

Describe directional (distribution?)

A

Distributed vertically or horizontally out from the head

Results in length increases due to the curve of the head

17
Q

Describe projection (elevation)

A

The angle at which the hair is held in relation to the curve of the head prior to and while cutting

18
Q

What is low, medium, and high elevation?

A

Low: 0-30 degrees
Medium: 30-60 degrees
High: 60-90 degrees

19
Q

Describe finger and shear position

A

Refers to the position of the fingers and shears relative to the parting
Parallel>fingers are positioned at an equal distance away from the parting. Will result in the purest reflection of the chosen line
Nonparallel>fingers are positioned unequally from the the parting. This is used to blend between contrasting lengths and to create exaggerated length increases

20
Q

Define design line

A

Artistic guideline used while cutting. Any line can be used to create a design line

21
Q

Describe stationary design lines

A

A stable guide that all lengths follow. Used to cut solid and increase-layered and to achieve a weight area in graduated forms

22
Q

Describe mobile design lines

A

A moveable guide that consists of a small amount of previously cut hair. Used to cut graduated and layered forms and square combination

23
Q

Define crosschecking

A

Used to check a haircut for balance and accuracy
Performed by using the opposite parting pattern that was used to cut the hair
Crosscheck periodically through the haircut to avoid mistakes

24
Q

Describe parting

A

Lines that subdivide sections of hair in order separate, distribute, and control the hair while cutting
Usually parallel to the design line

25
Q

Describe head position and the affects

A

Greatly influences the final results
When cutting the hair in an upright position, the most natural, pure result of the line is achieved
When cutting the hair in a forward position, there is no under-bevel (ends are turned under)
Cut the hair while tilted to refine the perimeter hairline, to allow ease in cutting the hair

26
Q

Gradation structure, shape, and texture

A

Very short exterior gradually progressing to long interior
Similar to graduated form but shorter
Shape: rectangle or oval
Texture:activated

27
Q

Square combination/ box cut structure, shape, texture

A

Structure: uniform at centre top to increase layered at front and crown; graduated uniform sides and back
Shape: square/rectangle
Texture: activated

28
Q

Characteristics of shears and primary use

A

Characteristics: clean, blunt edges

Primary use: create subtle variations in the hair

29
Q

Characteristics of taper shears and primary use

A

Characteristics: one straight blade and serrated blade

Primary use: produce distinct and regular alternation of shorter and longer lengths

30
Q

Characteristics of razors and primary use

A

Characteristics: small, sharp edges

Primary use: produce a softer, diffused form line

31
Q

Characteristics of clippers and primary use

A

Characteristics: cuts hair differently depending on the blade attachment
Primary use: quickly cut hair, can create clean, precise lines or a soft effect
