Hb <7g/dl
SE of iron supplements
Constipation
Causes of right shift of O2 dissociation curve

What binds to free Hb following haemolysis
Haptoglobin complexes with free Hb and this can then bind to macrophages allowing clearance and metabolism
Examples of iron chelation agents
- Deferiprone
- Deferoxamine
- Deferasirox
What is HbSC
*Where patients inherit one HbS and another abnormal Hb (HbC) resulting in a milder form of sickle cell disease (HbSC)
Changes in FBC during pregnancy
RBCs (+Hb) increase by 20% but plasma has a 50% increase which results in apparent anaemia
Which deficiency can follow from an ileocaecal resection
Vit B12 deficiency
Describe the histological classification of Hodgkin’s lymphoma
- Nodular sclerosing (70%) - good prognosis, mc in women, associated with lacunar cells
- Mixed cellularity (20%) - good prognosis, large n.o Reed-Sternberg cells
- Lymphocyte predominant (5%) - BEST prognosis
- Lymphocyte depleted (rare) - WORST prognosis
