What is a quikclot dressing?

A
  • dressing impregnated with kaolin, which works on contact with blood to activate the clotting cascade and improve control of bleeding
  • direct contact with the source of bleeding is required for the dressing to be effective
  • cleaning pooled blood out of the wounds prior to application will increase the likelihood of contact with the source of bleeding and improve effectiveness of the dressings
