Platelet count

A

Normal: 200-800 X 10^9 / L.
Sample: anticoagulated blood (Na/K EDTA)

  • Haemocytometer (Burker chamber): count the # in 10 rectangles, then X by 10^9 (in 1L).
  • Blood smear: 1000x magnification -> 1 platelet => 20 X 10^9 platelet count. (Big thrombocyte aggregates => proper function).
  • Automatic cell counters (5-30 fl V)
