Sweet syndrome
Sweet syndrome (acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis)
- inflammatory disorder characterized by the presence of inflammatory papules, plaques, or nodules on the skin, systemic symptoms, and neutrophilic infiltration of the skin.
Classical Sweet syndrome includes cases of Sweet syndrome that are not associated with malignancy or drug exposure.
The most common causes of malignancy-associated Sweet syndrome and drug-induced Sweet syndrome are acute myelogenous leukemia and granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF), respectively.
cutaneous lesions of Sweet syndrome are typically **painful, erythematous to violaceous papules **and plaques. Pseudovesiculation and pustule formation are often present. Biopsies characteristically demonstrate a dense neutrophilic infiltrate in the dermis without vasculitis.
