LYMPHOMA

A

Night sweats, unexplained fever >38°C and weight loss of more than 10% of body weight over 6 months are known as ‘B symptoms’ and carry prognostic importance.
✓ The presence of B symptoms carries a poorer prognosis and thus this is reflected in the staging of lymphomas.
✓ The Ann Arbor staging system is most commonly used in lymphoma.
✓ Alcohol-induced pain at sites of nodal disease is specific to Hodgkin’s lymphoma (HL).
✓ Fatigue is common in both Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL).
✓ Night sweats can be a feature of many conditions including Tuberculosis, Typhoid fever, Infective endocarditis, Thyrotoxicosis and Mesothelioma.
