Haematology Flashcards
Subtype of Hodgkins lymphoma with the most favourable prognosis
classical lymphocyte predominant variant
Genotype of the mild form of sickle cell
HbSC
Neutropenic sepsis
A relatively common complication of cancer therapy, usually as a consequence of chemotherapy. most commonly occurs 7-14 days after chemotherapy. may be defined as a neutrophil count of < 0.5 * 109 in a patient who is having anticancer treatment and has one of the following:
a temperature higher than 38ºC or
other signs or symptoms consistent with clinically significant sepsis
= URGENT admission to hospital
What is neurological signs combined with abdominal pain until proven otherwise
Acute intermittent porphyria or lead poisoning
Factor V Leiden mutation (the most common inherited thrombophilia)
= activated protein C resistance
- most common thrombophilia
- activated factor V is inactivated 10 times more slowly than normal by protein C (hence its alternative name of activated protein C resistance).
- likely if already experienced recurrent DVTs and has a family history of thrombo-embolic events
Protein C deficiency, Protein S deficiency, Prothrombin gene mutation (heterozygous) and Antithrombin III deficiency are all
Inherited thrombophilias
Antithrombin III (ATIII)
A non-vitamin K-dependent protease that inhibits coagulation by inhibiting the enzymatic activity of thrombin factors II, IX, and X
Cervix drains into which lymph nodes
internal iliac lymph nodes
Anthracyclines (e.g doxorubicin)
stabilizes DNA-topoisomerase II complex, inhibits DNA & RNA synthesis
Ondansetron
5-HT3 (serotonin) antagonist - used to treat nausea and vomiting after chemotherapy.
