This is a blood film of X patient taken X.
Grossly abnormal with evidence of tear drop cells.
This is consistent with myelofibrosis.
it is often associated with thrombocytosis as myelofibrosis is thought to be the product of unmoderated proliferation of megakaryocytes.
The resultant release of platelet derived growth factor is thought to stimulate fibroblasts
haematopoiesis develops in the liver and spleen.
JAK2 V617F mutation
unobtainable bone marrow biopsy - ‘dry tap’ therefore trephine biopsy needed
