Habitat Flashcards
Why do some organisms occupy a range of habitats?
Because they are highly adaptable in habitat requirements
There are different, but equivalent, resources available in different habitats
Reduced competition for sub optimal habitats.
Compare and contrast a habitat, an ecosystem and an environment.
A habitat is A PLACE THAT AN ORGANISM LIVES.
An ecosystem is A GROUP OF LIVING THINGS INTERACTING WITH EACH OTHER AND THEIR PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT.
An environment is ALL THE FACTORS THAT AFFECT AN INDIVIDUALS SURVIVAL.
What do habitat extremes influence, especially in plants?
Growth form.
What is habitat preference?
When organisms select different areas within their general habitat.
What resources to habitats provide organisms?
Food and water sources, mating sites, nesting sites, predator avoidance, shelter from climatic extremes.
What could cause an organism to not fully exploit the available resources in a habitat?
A lack of adaptations.
