Carbon Cycle Flashcards
What 2 things does carbon cycle between?
Biotic and abiotic environments.
How do you remember the carbon cycle?
Evaporation from lakes, ocean rivers and land, and transpiration from plants
CONDENSE and travel overland and precipitation falls on ocean and land
On land it flows to lakes, rivers and oceans OR infiltrates soil and either joins groundwater movement or collects in aquifers
What abiotic/biotic things can carbon be locked in?
Wood and fossil fuels such as oil and coal
Where do consumers gain protein from?
Food.
What happens when wood and fossil fuels (containing carbon) are burned?
The carbon goes into atmosphere and combines with oxygen to create carbon dioxide.
What is the process where carbon dioxide is released from living things called?
Respiration
What is it called when producers take in carbon dioxide from the air?
Photosynthesis
What happens to the carbon in dead things?
It is released and can be turned into fossil fuels.
Do decomposes help carbon be released from the body?
Yes.
