7
Q

What are the two ways of forwarding frames

A

Store and forward: store entire frame and check for errors

Q

What are the two types of Store and Forward

A

Port based buffering: frames are stored in queues for ports. One frame can delay all frames for all ports.

Shared Buffering: All frames are stored in a common buffer. Allows for different-speeds. This is called Asymmetrical Switching.

Q

What is auto-negotiation

A

Enables devices to exchange info about duplex mode. Otherwise a lot of collisions will happen.
