H2: LEUKEMIA Flashcards
Over production of various types of immature or mature cells in the bone marrow and/or peripheral blood
LEUKEMIAS
Frequently involves WBCs of the myelogenous or lymphocytic cell type
LEUKEMIAS
Solid malignant tumors of the lymph node and related WBCs in the bone tissue; the distinctive cell type is the lymphocyte
LYMPHOMAS
Malignant cells are initially confined to the organs containing phagocytic cells such as lymph nodes, spleen, liver, and bone marrow
LYMPHOMAS
Leukemia can be divided into two major cell types:
Myelogenous and Lymphocytic
Four major types of Leukemia
- AML
- CML
- ALL
- CLL
Described by symptoms of short duration, numerous immature cell forms and prominent loss of normal bone marrow function
Acute leukemia
Preliminary evaluation of acute leukemia
CBC, PLATELET COUNT, WBC DIFFERENTIAL, PBS EVALUATION
The specimen of choice for classification of leukemia by morphological and cytochemical criteria
Bone marrow aspirate
Minimum blast count of WHO
20%
