This guidance is set out within surveying safely and we also needed to receive an induction and was also policy on site.

Ensured construction workers knew when they could resume working and the number of people on site to reduce any risk.

A

I would refer to Surveying Safely which outlines a risk assessment is conducted by:

  1. Identifying present hazards
  2. Identify people at risk
  3. Consider likelihood and severity of accidents
  4. Record in suitable form
  5. Review regularly

A

Asbestos is a hazardous material that is harmful to health. Three types are white brown and blue.

A

The person responsible for the property, so that would be owner if the premises if vacant or tenant if holding a repairing lease

What precautions should you take when inspecting a site that may contain asbestos?

A

Any sites constructed before 2000 should have an asbestos register so I could refer to this to see where it may be contained within the building.

If not then in-line with the guidance for asbestos by RICS I would make enquiries to the duty holder about where asbestos could be located.

If no info - member to use own training on asbestos awareness and record in risk assessment and method statement prior to carrying out.

What would you do if you came across asbestos on an inspection?

A

Asbestos that is not disturbed is typically ok, however if in doubt I would always shut down the area, notify who I was with, leave the site with everyone before notifying the duty holder and advising they seek professional advice.
