Ingestion of acids, alkaline, ethanol, methanol, cyanide, ferrous sulfate, or other iron salts, lithium, coma, GI obstruction
Activated Charcoal dose
Oral: 50 to 100 g
Sodium Bicarbonate action
Counteracts existing acidosis
Sodium Bicarbonate indication
Acidosis, drug intoxication
Sodium Bicarbonate contraindications
Metabolic alkalosis, hypocalcemia
Sodium Bicarbonate dose
IV: 1 mEq/kg may repeat at 0.5 mEq/ in 10 minutes
Phenylephrine/ Neo-synephrine action
Stimulates alpha receptors
Phenylephrine/ Neo-synephrine indication
Neurogenic shock, spinal shock, drug induced hypotension
Phenylephrine/ Neo-synephrine contraindications
AMI, angina, arrhythmias, hypertension, coronary artery disease, pheochromocytoma, narrow angle glaucoma, cardiomyopathy, MAOI therapy, known sensitivity to phenylephrine or sulfites
Phenylephrine/ Neo-synephrine dose
IV: 100-180 mcg/min once bp stabilizes reduce to 40 to 60 mcg/min
Norepinephrine/ Levophed action
Alpha 1, alpha 2, and beta 1 agonist
Norepinephrine/ Levophed indication
Cardiogenic shock, septic shock, severe hypotension
Norepinephrine/ Levophed contraindications
Takin MAOI’s know sensitivity
Norepinephrine/ Levophed dose
IV: add 4 mg to 250 ml of D5W or D5NS. 0.5 to 1 mcg titrate to maintain systolic more than 80. Refractory shock 30 mcg/min
Phenytoin/ Dilantin action
Depresses seizures by affecting the movement of sodium and calcium into neural tissue
Phenytoin/ Dilantin indication
Generalized tonic- clonic seizures
Phenytoin/ Dilantin contraindications
Bradycardia, sinus block, Adams- Stokes syndrome, know sensitivity to hydantions
