What is the law in terms of how many embryos can be put back at ET
max of two for any woman under 40
if over 40 a max of three embryos but this must be specifically documented if three are put back
must keep a log of times when a women had more than one embryo put back despite meeting the clinics own criteria for SET eg in ninewells all women under 35 should have SET regardless of number of cycles

both partners must consent (written) and can withdraw consent at anytime
ie if couple have an embryo frozen together and the relationship ends there needs to still be constent from both parties for use of the embryo and either has the right for embryo to be allowed to perish
When is PGD legal
to establish whether embryos has genetic condition that may affect its capacity to result in live birth
explicitly not allowed for sex selection for social reasons (allowed for duchennes for example)
if you know an embryo to be abnormal by PGD you can not transfer it legally if there is a normal embryo which can be trnaferred instead
what age do sperm and egg donors have to be
usually for sperm no older than 46 and no older than 36 for women
what are the rights of the resulting child following donation in terms of information about the donor
child can know donors details once they reach the ace of 18
what is the legalities of paying sperm or egg donors
not officially payed but reimbursed for reasonable expenses
what are the laws on surrogates
couple must provide their own surrogate ie HFEA does not regulate or provide surrogates
patients providing gametes for surrogacy must be treated as donors
donors are not allowed to be payed by reimbursed for reasonable expense
what are the laws surrounding embryos and research
cannot be kept beyond 14 days or after the primitive streak has appeared
specific research liscnece is required to research on embryos
specific written consent for research embryso or gametes must be given and also specific consent for use of embryos gametes for training suh as for ICSI is required
define legal parenthood
if a couple is legally married then male partner is automatically a parent whether it is his own sperm or donor sperm
for homosexual couples in a civil partnership both parties are given the status of parenthood even with donor sperm
if couples is not married they must both consent to the male partner having legal parenthood
if two women are being treated with donor sperm they must both consent to second female being a legal parent
