William S. Bush and His Relationship to the Battle

A

Bush was 1st Lt of Marines aboard Constitution. We tried Crossing the T and it failed because we ran into Guerriere. Bush took the initiative and asked Hull: “Shall I board her sir?” Before Hull could reply, Bush was shot in the face and killed by an enemy marine. Bush was the first marine officer to ever be killed in a Naval engagement.
