The hypothalamus signals the pituitary gland to signal the start of growth spurt.
What hormones are present in a growth spurt?
Growth Hormone (GH)
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH)

Growth Hormone
-is released throughout life and decreases with old age
-released in the brain, travels around the body, acts on all cells and they increase in size and number
E.g (muscles (bigger), bones (larger), blood (volume)).
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone
Released in the thyroid gland (throat), releases new hormone- thyroxine- increase cell size and number, responsible for brain maturation.
What is a growth spurt?
A period of rapid growth during adolescence and changes the body in size, shape and function.
