Growth And Development Flashcards
What is light saturation?
- plants only have a limited capacity to absorb light(light saturation) this response is the light saturation curve, light saturation is the maximum amount of light the plant can use
Difference between c3 and c4 plants
- c4 is pants utilise light better at higher temperatures
- c3 plants utilise light better at lower temperatures
What are the effects of CO2 increase on light utilisation?
The optimum levels of sunlight needed increase with heightened levels of CO2
What is the radiation-use efficiency equation?
Growth rate(biomass)= incident radianceXcrop cover(%)X radiation-use efficiency
1g glucose =?
- 0.83g (CH2O)
- 0.38g protein
How is light measured?
Subjective measurements: lumens, candles, lux
Physical measurements: energy or quantum
What is light interception?
As the number and size of leaves in the canopy increases, the amount of light that is intercepted goes up
What is LAI (leaf area index?)
LAI is the area of leaf cover per area of ground
What are the three path ways water can go when used on a crop?
- absorption by roots
- evaporation
- percolation through soil
What is evapotranspiration?
The amount of water that gets lost from the soil moisture reserves over a set period
What are the nutrient types?
Macro and micro
