Growing Environment and GG Flashcards
What is the climate in Prosecco?
-warm, continental, mod rainfall
What is the terroir in Prosecco?
-flat plain= affected by moist air and fog from rivers
=sprays for diseases
What is the terroir like for the 2 DOCGs?
-hillier
-altitude= cooler and diurnal range
=longer, slower ripening
What are the features of Glera?
-vigorous
-semi-aromatic
-high yields
-susceptible to millerandage, downy and powdry mildew, drought, grape vine yellows
-first 2 buds don’t bear much fruit= trained long and vertical trellis w 8-12 buds
-low-med planting densities= vigour
What %age of local/international varieties can be permitted?
15%
What is Sylvoz training?
-high trained- cordons
-shoots hang down
-frost protection
-machine harvest
-well suited to high vigour sites on fertile, flatter land- eg Prosecco DOC
= aim=high yields
-cheap initially
What are the disadvantages of Sylvoz training?
-over cropping
-needs careful monitoring to avoid excessive shading
What is double-arched cane training?
-canes bent into arches
-improves evenness of growth and fruitfulness of glera
-increases ventilation= reduces fungal
-Conegliano v= high fruit quality= aim
What are the disadvantages of double-arched cane training?
-individual branches must be tied on in every plant= cost
What is guyot training?
-flatter land= machines= reducing cost
