Collection of people who happen to be in the same place but have little in common but don’t interact

Social group meet instrumental (task orientated) needs of individual. Instrumental needs are satisfied through interdependence

Ex: cooperation, society, health care
Symbolic
Focus on interactions based on specific group sizes. Process of indenting formation within given groups
Post modern
Modern relationships increasingly superficial. People overtaken by social scripts
