He created a lot of small sketches and paintings on rectangular panels because they were easy to carry while hiking in Algonquin Park.
•Eventually, these sketches were made in to larger oil paintings
•He made his own colours by mixing them, coming up with colours that you could not purchase at a store.

- He was very wealthy, as a heir to a farm machinery fortune, and helped the group with his fortunes.
- Travelled ALL of the Great Lakes regions, and to many of the provincial parks in Canada, which lead him to paint a lot of mountains.
