Group 7 & Group 0 (Halogens & Noble Gases) Flashcards
Halogen group 7
Fluorine: Poisonous yellow gas which is very reactive
Chlorine: is very reactive and it is a poisonous green gas
Bromine: Is a brown volatile liquid (poison)
Iodine: Dark grey which can form purple vapours and it is also and antiseptic
There ions have 1- charge
What are diatomic molecules
They both share 2 atoms
What is the trend for group 7 when you go down the group
The melting and boiling point increases and
The reactivity decreases
The larger atoms are least reactive
What happens when an halogen
(Ions)
Gains it’s called an halide
Fluoride
Chloride
Bromide
Displacement reactions
The more reactive element displaces the less reactive one example fluoride displaces iodine
Noble gases
They are colourless and they are inert (they don’t react with anything)
They are non-flammable
But there boiling point decreases as you go down the group
What are the colour of water halogens
•Bromine water is orange
•Chlorine water is colourless
•Iodine water is brown
